Amul Dairy – Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited, Anand celebrated its 67th Foundation Day and 138th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Patel – the great visionary with whose blessings Amul Dairy was established in the year 1946. The function organized at the Sardar Patel Hall at Amul Dairy campus on 31st October 2012 was presided over by Shri Bhagvatcharan Swamiji, Honourable Kothari, BAPS Temple, Anand. Shri Rasikh Vihari Swami and Shri Gopal Swami also attended the function. More than three thousand people including milk producers, cooperative leaders and other dignitaries attended the function. In his address, Shri Rahul Kumar, Managing Director, Amul Dairy recalled the contributions of visionaries like Sardar Patel, Shri Tribhuvandas Patel and Dr. V. Kurien. The foundation laid by the great visionaries has helped Amul to grow from small organization to an institution which is continuously studied by people from all walks of life from all over the world for its innovative approach not only in technology but also in improving quality of life of millions of farmers. He applauded the hard work of farmers and the leadership qualities of secretaries and chairmen of village level cooperative societies which has resulted in continuous rise in milk procurement. While acknowledging the great work of Swaminarayan sanstha, he reminded all that one should learn the management lessons and project execution skills from them as they have been carrying out in most efficient and effective manner.

Impressions:

Shri Rahul Kumar further stated that the most modern plant of Amul at Virar in Mumbai, with a capacity of processing milk at 50,000 litters per hour will be functional in near future. The operations in Kolkata will be further strengthened by setting up of Amul’s own plant. Shri Bhagvatcharan Swamiji in his speech recalled the great contributions made by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Shri Tribhuvandas Patel, Dr Kurien and chairmen and all members of amul family to put Anand on the world map and made the city Milk Capital of India. He further mentioned that both the Swaminarayan Sanstha and Amul began from Anand and the presence of these institutions are felt worldwide today. He also recalled Pramukh Swami Maharaj who often stated that Dr Kurien was born for farmers only. He concluded his speech by blessing all. On this occasion, the outstanding work carried out by various dairy co-operatives in field of aforestation, highest milk collection, clean milk production, artificial insemination, progeny testing, blood donation, rural marketing through Amul parlours, House Keeping, productivity, rural sanitation programme have been applauded by giving away prizes.
